Music Ministry

Music Ministry

It is the belief of Woodward Avenue Baptist Church that worship through music is an important part of spiritual formation, and each aspect of our Music Ministry strives to contribute positively to this process.  More than an outlet for performance, each of our groups is an invitation to encounter our Savior through worship, and to lead our congregation in the same.  Our Music Ministry provides opportunities for participation and growth for musicians of all ages and skill levels.  Whether you’ve been singing or playing your entire life or decided to take it up only yesterday, we have a place for you to join in the song as we worship our God and Creator.

For children, we offer Preschool and Children’s Choirs.  These groups meet on Sunday nights at 6 pm in the KidZone, and are open to all children through the 6th grade.  There is no audition required.  These choirs put on a special program each Christmas, as well as provide special music for our Sunday morning worship services periodically throughout the year.

Our Worship Choir is the flagship program of our music ministry and is open to any individual.  Students are even welcome to join, provided they are in the 7th grade or above.  No audition is required for membership, and rehearsals are each Wednesday night at 6 pm in the choir room.  The Worship Choir assists in leading our congregation in worship each Sunday morning, and provides special music 2-3 times each month.  In addition, our Worship Choir puts on a night of worship each Christmas season, as well as various other programs throughout the year.

For the more skilled or experienced musician, there is opportunity to serve on our Worship Team.  Our Worship Team consists of both vocalists and instrumentalists, and rehearses each Wednesday night at 7 pm.  If you are interested in participating by singing or playing with our Worship Team, you can get more information or schedule an audition by contacting our Worship Pastor, Timmy Ray.

Finally, our Handbell Choir provides a unique opportunity for fellowship and musical expression.  Meeting each Sunday at 5 pm in the West Education Building, our Handbell Choir provides Special Music in our Sunday services periodically throughout the year, particularly around Christmas and Easter.  No previous experience ringing bells is required to join this group, nor is the ability to read music.
